Rainy season doesn’t typically start until mid-June, so the dry climate during spring offers great opportunities for jungle exploring, hiking along the coast, or up the mountains, and experiencing the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. April is a particularly good time to visit as it is the driest month with low humidity and cool evenings, allowing for a perfect exploration of the city at night. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a mix of both, there’s no shortage of exciting things to do in Puerto Vallarta during spring. Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Week

Restaurant Week, an event where restaurants offer a special, fixed-price menu for a limited time, has become a popular attraction in cities like New York and London. Inspired by this trend, Vallarta Lifestyles Media Group started Restaurant Week in 2005 in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, which takes place annually from May 15th to June 10th. The festival features some of the most sought-after restaurants in the area and offers three-course menus with three options per course.

This event is greatly anticipated by locals and food enthusiasts worldwide who plan their annual vacations specifically to participate in Restaurant Week. With prices often discounted by up to 50%, dining out during the festival is both enjoyable and more budget-friendly.

 Hike to Las Animas

Explore the lush jungle and stunning scenery of the Sierra Madre mountains on the popular hike from Boca de Tomatlan to Las Animas. Located just 40 minutes (13.5 miles) south of Villa del Palmar Puerto Vallarta, the trailhead starts in the small fishing village of Boca de Tomatlan and ends in Las Animas, a secluded beach that is only accessible by boat or on foot. 

The trail is a scenic route that winds along the coast and through the lush jungle of the Sierra Madre mountains. The well-marked and well-maintained trail offers a challenging and rewarding experience with stunning views along the way. But be prepared for steep inclines and bring bottled water, as there are no places to buy it on the trail. 

At Las Animas, you’ll find yourself on a beautiful beach, the perfect spot to relax, swim, and soak up the sun. You can also rent a palapa or a beach chair and enjoy a delicious lunch at one of several restaurants situated on the beach.  

Once you’re ready to head back to Puerto Vallarta, you can take a water taxi from Las Animas to the Romantic Zone. This scenic boat ride takes about 30 minutes and offers stunning views of the coastline and the jungle. The water taxi runs regularly throughout the day and is a convenient and affordable way to get back to town.

 Visit the Botanical Gardens

 

Another must-visit destination during spring in Puerto Vallarta is the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. Located approximately an hour south (18 miles) of Villa del Palmar Puerto Vallarta, the gardens cover 20 acres of land and are home to over 3,000 species of tropical plants, including orchids, bromeliads, cacti, and wild palms.  

Visitors can explore a variety of different garden areas, including: Palm Gardens, which showcases over 100 species of palms; the Cactus Garden, which is home to over 400 species of cacti; and the Orchid Garden, which boasts over 200 species of orchids from all over the world. There is also a river where you can take a swim in its crystal-clear waters.  

Spring is the perfect time to visit the Botanical Gardens because of the warm weather and the opportunity to see a colorful display of flowers and lush greenery, with the sweet scent of blooming flora permeating the air. The diverse botanical collection, combined with the tranquil and peaceful setting, make the Botanical Gardens a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in nature. 

The Botanical Gardens are open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm from Tuesday to Sunday, with the garden closed on Mondays, from April to November. 

A General Admission ticket costs $300 pesos (approx. $15 USD) and admission is free for children under the age of 4; prices are subject to change. Riviera Nayarit

If you’re seeking a spring getaway, put the Riviera Nayarit on your radar. With its breathtaking combination of lush jungle and azure waters, this lively destination promises an unforgettable experience during the spring season. Here are three recommended activities and tours to help you make the most of your visit. 

 Snorkeling

Snorkeling is one of the top activities in Riviera Nayarit, and it’s easy to see why. With its vibrant coral reefs, diverse marine life, and lukewarm waters in spring, snorkeling is a must-do activity.  ​​Take a boat trip to one of the many bays and coves along the coast and explore the underwater realm. 

One of the best places to go snorkeling in Riviera Nayarit is Marietas Islands, ”Islas Marietas National Park”. This protected wildlife reserve is home to some of the most diverse marine life in the region, including colorful tropical fish, sea turtles, manta rays, and even dolphins. The waters are calm and clear, making them perfect for snorkeling.

Take a Cooking Class 

If you’re a foodie looking to expand your culinary skills, you’ll love the cooking classes offered at  Hector’s Kitchen in Punta Mita. Hector’s Kitchen is run by Chef Hector Leyva, who is passionate about sharing his love of Mexican cuisine with others.  

During the class, you will learn how to make traditional dishes from different regions of Mexico using seasonal ingredients. Watch as Chef Hector prepares classic dishes, such as ceviche, step-by-step and you’ll get to taste several different dishes as he prepares the delicious dishes along with a craft beer pairing for each course. 

This culinary experience lasts for 3 hours and takes place from Monday to Saturday at 11:00 am. It must be booked at least 24 hours in advance and is held at Hector’s Kitchen restaurant in Punta Mita, approximately a 35-minute drive (17 miles) from Villa del Palmar Flamingos. The cost is $120 USD per person, with a minimum of 2 participants required; pricing subject to change.

 Go Ziplining

Spring is a great time for a thrilling adventure in the heart of the lush tropical rainforest.
