“To the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world.”
– Bill Wilson
Congratulations to Sara Cardona, Eagle’s Wings Foundation Board Member and Puerto Vallarta Representative, for being honored with the Woman of the Year award! Sara received this award for her social involvement and dedication to bettering the community in Mexico. We are so happy and proud of Sara’s accomplishments.
Sara began her altruistic work at 14 after the 1985 earthquake in Mexico City, following the example of love and dedication of her parents and her pastor Don Rolando Gutierrez. With her mother, she founded a soup kitchen in the area most affected by the earthquake. Sara believes in serving others with love. Her devotion to serving God motivated her to establish additional community kitchens and get involved with causes such as children’s radio stations, nonprofits, churches, orphanages, and nursing homes.
Sara worked with Gerardo Avila to found the Salvation Army in the Mojoneras area of Puerto Vallarta. and to build what is now called Casa Infantil Mojoneras. At the end of this work, Sara was invited to serve as a Director on the Board of Eagles Wing’s Foundation.
Sarah is also part of the committee Dives in Misericordia Civil Association and Impulso de Aguila AC. She is a Board Member for Albergue Vida Nueva AC, Co-Founder of the collective MAM (Women Helping Women), Minister of Cultural Via in Puerto Vallarta, President of AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) and an adviser to the current President of DIF (Desarrollo Integral de la Familia).
Sara’s Proudest Accomplishments:
- Casa Infantil Mojoneres-Volunteer project with the Salvation Army that started from zero and ended with a facility that currently feeds 300 kids daily.
- Playa Grande Area Project-Provides food hampers, clothes, school supplies, medicine, doctor visits, and toys for children during the holidays.
- Dives in Misercordia in Ixtapa-Helps over 300 people by teaching families sewing and other skills to help support themselves.
Sara is constantly motivated by her husband Jorge, mother Elia, daughter Anabelén, best friend Lisette, and colleague and fellow EWF board member Cesar Sanchez. She gives her time to help others without any expectations and strives to leave her daughter a better world to live in. We are so grateful for Sara’s devotion and love that makes this world a better place.
