On your next vacation getaway to Villa del Palmar Cancun, we highly recommend a visit to the archaeological site of El Rey, a fantastic hidden cultural gem that is conveniently located in the Hotel Zone strip, approximately 25 minutes from Villa del Palmar Cancun. It is the perfect destination for travelers seeking a one of a kind and exciting adventure. A visit to El Rey is very affordable and great for the entire family.
During your visit, you will have the opportunity to walk around the 47 historical buildings that were inhabited by the ancient Maya over a thousand years ago. You will notice that some of the structures are more intact than others, and they preserve a vital part of the ancestral history of the “Nest of Snakes” city, (Cancun’s Mayan name).
The tour of El Rey lasts approximately 35 – 45 minutes. Operators of the tour invite visitors to download and listen to the “TekTrek Audio Guide” so that they are able to learn more about the traces of the ancient Maya that have been discovered there. Artifacts found there include the tomb of an important king, as well as rural paintings.
A visit to the Mayan ruins of El Rey is a one-of-a-kind experience. Its archaic buildings will take you on a journey back in time where you will discover the iconic Mayan temples, small squares, beautiful nature, lush native flora, and more.
We recommend that travelers bring a sun hat or an umbrella, use sunscreen, keep insect repellant handy, wear sunglasses, and wear comfortable shoes. We also recommend that travelers wear comfortable shoes and keep insect repellent handy for use during the tour.
