Whale Watching

From mid-December to the end of March, groups of whales head to the Baja coast in search of the perfect place to birth their young. This yearly migration from the cold waters of the Arctic provides some of the most fascinating and unique entertainment of the year for those who visit the Islands of Loreto.

During the winter season, whale watching tours occur at the Islands of Loreto and Magdalena Bay, where you can observe whales gracing the waters with the islands and beautiful desert mountains in the background. Whale watchers can get a front row seat by embarking on a whale watching tour to see whales engage in elaborate displays of breaching, lobtailing and fin-slapping, which are all no-verbal forms of communication between whales.

The gray whale is the most popular whale in Baja; however you can also see these seven species of whales: Orca, Humpback, Finback, Sei, Minke, Pilot, and Blue Whale.

See whales in their natural environment as you take in the beauty that surrounds you on your next whale watching adventure at the Islands of Loreto! Below is an example of what you may see.

To make your vacation even more relaxing and affordable, we are offering two Whale Watching packages to our valued members this season. The first package is called the “Ultimate Whale Watching Package” and includes 7 nights of the all-inclusive meal plan ($735 value), 1 day of whale watching at Magdalena Bay with lunch, 1 day of whale watching at the Islands of Loreto with lunch, 1-$25 USD Sabila Spa certificate per person, and 1 hour of your choice of kayaking or paddle boarding. All for $905 USD per person.

The “Whale Watching Adventure” package is another package that we offer and includes 1 day of whale watching at Magdalena Bay with lunch, 1 day of whale watching at the Islands of Loreto with lunch, 1-$25 USD Sabila Spa certificate per person, and 1 hour of your choice of kayaking or paddle boarding. The difference between these two packages is that the “Ultimate Whale Watching” package includes the all-inclusive meal plan whereas the “Whale Watching Adventure” package does not; so if you are looking to purchase the all-inclusive meal plan during your next winter vacation to the Islands of Loreto while spending some time in the water, the “Ultimate Whale Watching Adventure” package will more than pay for itself.
