The park takes up about 64 acres. Admire the Beauty of the Gardens 

The Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens have attracted visitors from oceans away thanks to its incredible colorful collection of native orchids. As you walk through the park, you will be amazed by the beauty of the flowers. Pay attention to the flowering landscaped pathways, and don’t forget to stop by the conservatory. Of course, orchids aren’t the only thing worth seeing in the gardens. Throughout the park, you will notice displays of Mexican vanilla. Use the opportunity and learn more about how the famous spice is made. Or – have an up-close look at the signature blue agave, which is used to make tequila.

Hear About the History of Chocolate 

Are you a fan of chocolate? It is hard to resist the yummy treat. By visiting the Botanical Gardens, you will also find out more about the production process of chocolate. In the park, you will find quite a few cacao trees. Since chocolate has an important role in pre-Hispanic rituals and has been produced in Mexico for centuries, the experience is a great chance to learn more about the country’s culture.

Take a Guided Tour 

Those who wish to explore the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens by themselves can easily do it. But those who prefer to have a deeper look will surely enjoy a guided tour. On the gardens’ website, you will find different tour options you can choose from. For example, you may book an experience that lasts six hours and includes lunch at the onsite restaurant and the demonstration of the vanilla extract’s making. Once every while, the gardens also host fascinating events such as birding fests and flower shows.

Go On a Hike 

Discovering the many species of plants and flowers is wondrous by itself. But to have an even better experience, we suggest exploring some of the hiking trails that go through the property. Walk through the Jaguar trail, which leads up to a swimming hole in the river. Those who prefer an easier and shorter hike will enjoy the Sendero Guacamaya and Plantación de Vanilla trails. The Botanical Gardens are home to over 200 native bird species, making the gardens the perfect place to go bird watching. To see as many creatures as possible, plan your visit in the morning or the afternoon when the little chirpers seem to be more active. Throughout the park, you will find feeding stations.

Wander Around the Premises 

To discover the Botanical Gardens in all of their glory, you must set aside at least a couple of hours. Make sure to stop by the Holstein Tropical Plant House, visit the Daneri Vireya Rhododendron House (which boasts beautiful tropical plants,) and the Cheryl Wheeler International Peace Garden (which features plants from the Mediterranean and the Holy Land along with Mexican wildflowers).

Satisfy Your Inner Foodie 

Whenever hunger kicks in, stop by the onsite restaurant Hacienda de Oro which serves breakfast dishes, fish tacos, brick-oven pizzas, fajitas, tortillas, burgers, and so much more. The open-air restaurant has a fantastic view over the jungle and garden grounds. So even if you aren’t hungry, stop by to enjoy the awesome view.

Tips for Your Visit: 

  1. Bring water  
  2. Don’t forget to pack sunscreen and insect repellent  
  3. Wear long pants and shirts to protect yourself from the sun (and mosquitos) 
  4. Take a swimming suit and towel if you plan on testing the water in the river 
  5. Wear comfortable walking shoes

  2. Have planned a trip to Puerto Vallarta for 2 weeks arriving December 2023. Are the gardens open at this time of year. If affirmative , what attractions are open.
